A new subscription-based AI browser from Opera called Neon is now available to a select group of users, priced at $19.90 per month. This marks a significant step for the Norwegian software firm, which first teased its “agentic browser” concept back in May. Unlike earlier vague announcements, specific features are now coming to light. Opera Neon integrates multiple specialized AI agents, each designed for distinct functions. One agent, named Tasks, creates a dedicated workspace for individual projects. Another, called Do, handles the actual process of web browsing within each Task environment. Users can store their custom instructions for these AI helpers using a feature known as Cards.

Access to Opera Neon remains restricted to an undisclosed number of initial testers. Anyone else interested in trying the browser must sign up for the waitlist and hope for future availability. Opera describes Neon as a “next generation AI browser,” positioning it at the forefront of an increasingly crowded field. The past several months have seen a surge of activity in AI-powered browsing tools. July witnessed the debut of Perplexity’s Comet browser, with OpenAI’s ChatGPT Agent following close behind. Just this month, Atlassian completed its acquisition of The Browser Company, the developer behind the Dia browser, while Google rolled out fresh Gemini AI capabilities for its Chrome browser.
