Annaba has experienced a remarkable surge in the quality and reach of its telecommunications and postal services, driven by targeted government initiatives aimed at modernization and accessibility. Following a ministerial visit earlier this year, the region has seen concrete advancements in digital infrastructure, mobile connectivity, and community-focused postal solutions, marking a significant step forward in Algeria’s broader digital transformation goals.
The rollout of fiber optic internet has been a cornerstone of this progress. Under the Network Asarna program, there has been a decisive shift from outdated copper lines to high-speed fiber, bringing reliable internet access to previously underserved neighborhoods. Subscription numbers tell a compelling story: fiber connections have surged by 46%, climbing from 65,454 in April to nearly 96,000 today. Algeria Telecom played a crucial role in this expansion, organizing awareness campaigns and engaging directly with residents to encourage adoption.
Mobile network coverage has also seen major upgrades. Since the ministerial directives were issued, 40 new mobile stations have become operational across Annaba, with plans to install more than 120 additional sites in the near future. To accommodate seasonal demand, temporary mobile units were strategically placed at popular coastal areas including Janan Albay, Shataibi, Shabi, Sanklo, Sidi Salem, and Ain Ashir. This ensures both locals and visitors enjoy strong, uninterrupted connectivity even during peak tourist periods.
A dedicated Skills Center has been established to empower the next generation of digital talent. The facility offers training in cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence, supporting students, researchers, and startup entrepreneurs. This initiative is designed to equip Annaba’s youth with relevant digital competencies and stimulate homegrown innovation.
Postal services have not been left behind. To improve convenience and access, two mobile post offices are now serving the new city area, with an additional unit operating in Arctic Caleetus. Preparatory studies have been finalized for the construction of two permanent postal facilities in Feather Arm and Armani Caleetosa, signaling a long-term commitment to enhanced public service delivery.
The advancements in Annaba are viewed as a benchmark for how focused ministerial oversight and local implementation can dramatically improve essential services. This coordinated effort underscores Algeria’s dedication to bridging the digital divide and ensuring that technological progress benefits communities across the nation.
