Emirati tech conglomerate G42, backed by Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth funds, is offering the model for free and running it on a cluster of Cerebras chips as an alternative to Nvidia hardware. According to Eric Xing, president of MBZUAI and lead AI researcher, K2 Think represents a technical disruption rather than a simple iteration. He highlighted its unique combination of recent innovations, including fine-tuning on extended reasoning sequences, agentic planning that deconstructs problems in multiple ways, and reinforcement learning aimed at achieving verifiably correct answers. These elements allow the model to perform efficiently even on specialized hardware.
Xing emphasized that the development of K2 Think required several thousand GPUs, with the final training phase utilizing between 200 and 300 chips. The team plans to integrate this reasoning model into a complete large language model in the coming months. Both the model and a detailed technical report have been made openly available to the global research community.
