The start of a new year brings a fresh wave of excitement for motorsport enthusiasts everywhere. As real-world series unveil their latest cars and technologies, the sim racing community is already deep into a thrilling season of iconic events. The energy is palpable, and iRacing is at the heart of it, harnessing that competitive spirit with a global community of dedicated racers. This momentum fuels our latest development cycle, packed with new content, foundational improvements, and a clear vision for the future.
Looking back at our recent special events, the numbers speak for themselves. The Daytona 24 reached unprecedented scale with over 6,000 registered teams and 3.5 million laps completed. Hosting the world’s biggest sim racing events is a responsibility we take seriously, requiring immense technological and operational investment. A key part of maintaining that professional environment is our dedicated protest review team. This full-time group processed nearly 300,000 reports last year, working tirelessly to ensure clean and fair competition through coachable feedback and necessary disciplinary actions. This scale of investment in race integrity is unique in the sim racing space.
Now, let’s focus on the imminent Season 2 release. This build is substantial, introducing fantastic new cars and tracks, major physics overhauls, and a suite of new features for the Sim UI alongside meaningful AI advancements.
New tracks lead the way with the highly anticipated Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. This street circuit offers a uniquely dynamic challenge, blending bumpy public roads with smooth racing segments and an airport runway. It will host multiple series, from IndyCar to the NASCAR Truck Series, ensuring phenomenal racing across disciplines. Furthermore, Barber Motorsports Park receives a comprehensive, from-the-ground-up rebuild to match its real-world repave and renovations. Existing owners will receive this modern, high-fidelity version at no additional cost, while the original version will be retired. We also extend our deepest sympathies to the Barber family for their recent loss.
On the car front, Season 2 is stacked. Following the early release of the refreshed NASCAR Cup Series Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, the biggest news is the pending debut of the NASCAR Ram Truck, bringing a four-manufacturer field to the service for the first time in 14 years. The touring car category also gets a major boost with the arrival of the Audi RS3 LMS Gen2 TCR. This heralds a complete class-wide physics overhaul and a transition plan where the current Gen1 model moves to Legacy status, with credits offered to recent purchasers.
The physics updates are particularly extensive. The entire TCR class has undergone a ground-up rebuild, featuring new tire technology, refined handling, real-world braking systems, and a fresh Balance of Performance. Similarly, the five-car GTE class receives a massive refresh, aligning it with our latest GT3 standards with next-gen slick tires, rain capability, and updated chassis dynamics. Historic fans will appreciate significant updates to the IMSA Vintage cars (Audi 90 GTO and Nissan GTP ZX-T) and a long-awaited modernization of the legendary Lotus 49, now equipped with all-weather period tires and an authentic suspension and braking model.
AI racing sees a major quality-of-life improvement with Simulated Race Results, which calculates full finishing orders even if you leave a session early. The New Sim UI expands its capabilities with customizable UI Profiles, a built-in Live Telemetry graph for brake and throttle inputs, and new Session widgets. A highly requested feature allows you to toggle the Driving Line on and off with a bindable keypress. Enhancements to the Reference/Ghost car system now let you easily offset a ghost car by a specific time gap, creating a powerful practice tool.
Looking beyond Season 2, our development roadmap is bustling. We are refining our audio engine for greater efficiency, which will enable future high-fidelity features. AI Racing is coming to Dirt, starting with ovals, and is currently in intensive testing. Career Mode development has reached a major milestone with end-to-end testing underway. Our physics team is split between long-term transformational projects, like a next-gen tire model and advanced aero, and a dedicated group focused on continuous, immediate improvements to current models.
The new graphics engine, “Spark,” is progressing with a focus on transformative night lighting. We’re also rebuilding systems like Reference Laps and our Commercial racing product, and our scan and production teams have a packed schedule for new content. Our partnership with NASCAR has expanded to build the full Naval Base Coronado track, tentatively targeting a summer release.
This relentless pace is possible because of our growing team and our commitment to reinvesting in the platform. Our shared passion with this community is what drives us forward. We are incredibly proud of what’s coming and can’t wait to share the track with you for another exciting season. Good luck out there
