Google has officially launched news updates and top stories within its AI Overviews section on mobile devices in the United States. A company spokesperson confirmed the feature is now fully rolled out for U.S. mobile users.
Here is how it looks. As I noted on the Search Engine Roundtable when the rollout first began, I captured several screenshots of the new interface.
More context. This update stems from Google’s May announcement, in which the company promised “fresh perspectives, new updates and prominent links” inside AI Overviews. At the time, Google stated, “Now, for some searches when you have a question about a developing topic, you’ll start seeing a prominent carousel, which will also highlight your Preferred Sources. This will help make timely articles more visible on a wider range of queries.”
That carousel is now live for certain queries across the U. S. on mobile.
Why this matters. This feature has the potential to boost click-through rates for news publishers and drive meaningful traffic from Google’s AI-powered search features, including AI Overviews and AI Mode.
We remain hopeful that Google will follow through on its commitment to increase clicks to the open web with future search innovations like this one.
If AI can’t find you, customers won’t either. Track your visibility across AI search, uncover missed opportunities, and grow your presence where customers are asking questions. See your AI visibility.
