Google Image Search has marked its 25th anniversary with a major overhaul, replacing its once-minimalist home page at images.google.com with a sprawling image gallery designed for discovery. Instead of the familiar solitary search box, visitors now encounter a dynamic, visually rich collection of photos curated from across the web.

“Today, we’re introducing a brand new browseable home for Google Images, featuring a dynamic, immersive gallery of images from across the web , updated in real time and intelligently tailored to your unique interests,” said Brad Kellet, Senior Engineering Director for Search.

The shift is dramatic. Where users once saw a simple, clean interface with a single search field, the new page presents a full-screen mosaic of images organized by theme and interest. A side-by-side comparison of the old and new layouts reveals just how much the experience has changed: the old page is stark and utilitarian, while the new one is bold and exploratory.

Despite the visual overhaul, core search functionality remains intact. A search box sits at the top of the page, supporting text, voice, and image-based queries. Users can also browse freely through the gallery and save ideas directly to collections. These saved images appear as tabs above the main gallery, allowing for quick returns to previous explorations. Google described this as a way to make it easy to “jump back in and continue exploring based on what inspires you.”

The new Google Image Search home page will begin rolling out over the next few weeks on desktop in the U. S., in English. To access it, users must be signed in to their Google Account.
