Starting today, Facebook is introducing AI Mode, a new search feature that generates answers using content from public posts across Meta’s platforms. When you search on Facebook, you’ll see this option alongside traditional categories like “People” and “Marketplace.” It’s part of a broader rollout that also includes photo presets for swapping sports jerseys onto fans and suggestions for collage templates.
Rather than serving up “just links,” AI Mode produces results drawn from publicly shared material across Meta’s apps. This approach mirrors the AI search tool in the company’s newer, Reddit-like Forum app. Users can also ask follow-up questions to refine the answers they receive.
Meta’s move follows Google’s strategy of pulling from Reddit threads for search results and AI overviews. In a statement, Meta explained that the feature “uses Meta AI to give you answers grounded in what people are saying publicly across our apps.” The underlying Muse Spark AI model is expected to “over time unlock new features that cite recommendations and content people share across Instagram, Facebook, and Threads.”
