Google has now launched its Google Search Live feature worldwide in all regions where its AI Mode is active. This global expansion makes the interactive voice and video search tool accessible across more than 200 countries and territories, representing a significant step in the evolution of conversational search.

The company attributes this broad rollout to its latest Gemini 3.1 Flash Live model, which powers the underlying audio and voice technology. Google states this new model enables more natural and intuitive dialogues. A key advancement is its inherently multilingual design, allowing users globally to interact with Search using their preferred spoken language.

Using the feature is straightforward. Within the Google app on Android or iOS, users tap the Live icon located beneath the main Search bar. They can then ask a question aloud and receive a spoken answer. The conversational AI allows for follow-up questions, and the system can provide helpful web links for deeper exploration. For visual queries, such as needing help assembling furniture, users can enable their camera. Search Live then analyzes the live view to offer contextual suggestions and direct links to relevant online information.

The functionality is also integrated with Google Lens. If a user is already viewing the world through Lens, they can simply tap the Live option at the bottom of the screen to start a real-time dialogue about whatever is in front of their camera.

This worldwide release follows a phased introduction. The service, initially launched as a text-only “talk and listen” beta, later added video capabilities and became available in the United States last September.

The expansion of conversational search represents a shift in how users obtain information, moving away from typed queries toward spoken interactions. While the feature does provide source citations and links at the end of responses, potentially offering some referral traffic to publishers, the immediate and comprehensive nature of the audio answers may reduce the incentive for users to click through to websites. This evolution continues to challenge traditional models of search engine traffic and user engagement.
