Nightdive Studios has built a strong reputation over the years for breathing new life into classic and obscure shooters, but one of its most anticipated projects has finally resurfaced. Originally announced back in 2020, the remaster of the 1998 cult hit SiN was shelved in 2023 so the team could concentrate on other titles. Now, after persistent fan demand, SiN: Reloaded is officially back on track, and the studio has released a fresh gameplay trailer alongside a Steam demo available for immediate download.

The remaster was quietly re-announced in March, but this latest showcase provides a much deeper look at what players can expect. While a specific release date remains unconfirmed, Nightdive has confirmed the full game will launch before the end of 2026 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Originally developed by Ritual Entertainment, SiN casts players as Colonel John R. Blade, a protagonist navigating the dystopian streets of Freeport in the near-future setting of 2037. The plot revolves around tracking a dangerous recreational drug linked to the sinister corporation SinTek. Built on the Quake 2 engine back in the day, the remaster now runs on Nightdive’s proprietary KEX Engine, enabling cross-platform support.

SiN: Reloaded bundles the original campaign with the Wages of SiN expansion pack. Nightdive promises performance up to 4K resolution at 144 FPS, alongside enhanced features such as anti-aliasing, high-definition textures and models, and upgraded 2D and menu art. These improvements aim to modernize the visuals without losing the original’s distinct aesthetic. For purists, the option remains to toggle between remastered visuals and the original SiN Gold version.

Beyond graphical upgrades, the remaster includes overhauled control schemes and a rework of select maps throughout the game. Achievements have also been added for the first time.

Larry Kuperman, former VP of business development at Nightdive, explained the studio’s motivation in a March interview with Polygon: “There were two games that we had that we felt were obligations… One was System Shock 2. Sin was the other one. Because we owned the rights to Sin, we always put it on the backburner when we had other time-critical projects.” After six years, the studio is finally ready to deliver.

While SiN did feature online multiplayer, its legacy is largely built on a story-driven campaign that blends absurd humor with dystopian world-building. It may not reach the satirical heights of Duke Nukem 3D, but its lighthearted tone and satisfying gunplay have cultivated a devoted fanbase over the decades.
