Dune: Awakening players can look forward to substantial free updates every few months, with developer Funcom confirming a consistent content roadmap for the survival MMO. During a recent Reddit AMA, the team revealed plans to deliver major expansions at no cost, packed with fresh narrative elements and PvE experiences. These free updates will run parallel to optional paid DLC, available individually or through a season pass.

Executive producer Scott Junior emphasized the studio’s commitment to enriching the game’s universe, hinting at upcoming PvE maps, though whether these will be part of free updates or premium expansions remains unclear. Players won’t have to wait long for improvements, as an early July patch promises numerous quality-of-life enhancements. While specifics weren’t shared, Junior assured detailed patch notes would arrive closer to the update’s testing phase.

The AMA also addressed player concerns about endgame dynamics, particularly the dominance of vehicles in PvP encounters within the Deep Desert zone. Creative director Joel Bylos acknowledged the imbalance, confirming adjustments are underway to better integrate on-foot combat. Though a ground-vehicle-only zone was ruled out, Bylos noted tweaks to vehicle mechanics are in development to create fairer engagements.

Future updates will introduce features like player duels, a “deposit all” option for water, and revisions to the Landsraad PvE system. Bylos teased a third faction that could dramatically shift the factional landscape. Meanwhile, the game continues to thrive on Steam, boasting over 140,000 concurrent players after recent fixes to endgame PvP, including collision damage removal for vehicles and adjusted respawn timers. Console fans will need patience, as the PlayStation and Xbox versions aren’t expected until 2026.

With a blend of free content drops and premium expansions, Dune: Awakening aims to keep its community engaged while refining its unique survival-MMO hybrid formula.
