For years, Reddit endured relentless criticism over its lackluster search functionality. Users often struggled to surface relevant discussions, and the feature was widely considered a weak point. But recent investments, including the integration of AI-powered search tools, appear to be changing that narrative. CEO Steve Huffman revealed on Thursday that the number of people using Reddit’s search feature each week has jumped 30% year-over-year, signaling that the platform’s efforts are finally gaining traction.

Huffman emphasized that search has become a key driver of both user acquisition and retention. “On search, we have seen great performance. Search DAUs, WAUs, and queries are up meaningfully year-over-year. It’s a great driver of retention and DAUs. The search team is, quite frankly, I think doing a great job. If you use Reddit Answers, you can see it is better integrated into the product,” he said during the company’s first-quarter earnings call.

In February, Reddit began testing product placement within AI-generated search results in the United States. Huffman noted that roughly 40% of conversations on Reddit are commercial in nature, and 84% of shoppers feel more confident in their purchasing decisions after researching on the platform.

The social network ended the quarter with 493 million weekly active unique users (WAUq), a 23% increase from the same period last year. Daily active unique users (DAUq) reached 126 million, up 17% year-over-year. U. S. visitors grew 7% to 53.5 million DAUqs, while international daily users hit 73.3 million, a 26% rise. Reddit has set ambitious targets to reach 1 billion daily users globally and 100 million daily users in the U. S.

Beyond search, the company highlighted its machine translation feature, now supporting over 30 languages, as a significant growth driver over the past several quarters.

Financially, Reddit reported Q1 2026 revenue of $663 million, beating Wall Street’s estimate of $609.8 million. The company also noted it spent just $1 million in capital expenditures during the quarter.
