Airbnb has significantly broadened its platform by introducing a global private car service, now available for booking in 125 cities. This strategic move, powered by a partnership with the transportation provider Welcome Pickups, allows travelers to arrange airport or station transfers directly within the Airbnb app. The service is already live in major destinations like Paris, Bali, and Mexico City, marking a key step in the company’s evolution beyond accommodations.

Following a successful pilot program in Europe and Asia earlier this year, which saw thousands of guests participate and give an average rating of 4.96, the feature is now widely available. After booking a stay in an eligible city, guests will find the option to schedule a private car service within the Trips tab of the app. All reservation details can be managed there, providing a seamless link between transportation and lodging.

Airbnb Services are designed to enhance a guest’s stay, and our partnership with Welcome Pickups delivers that from the moment they arrive,” said Dave Stephenson, Airbnb’s chief business officer. The company has confirmed plans for further geographical expansion throughout the year.

This launch represents a continued build-out of the Airbnb Services category, which debuted last summer. Initially offering ten categories like booking chefs, photographers, and spa treatments in eight countries, the division has grown steadily. Recent additions include a grocery delivery partnership with Instacart in select U. S. cities, allowing guests to pre-order supplies for their stay.

The introduction of transit options accelerates Airbnb’s push toward becoming a comprehensive travel platform. The company is actively developing a full stack of service offerings to cater to every aspect of a trip. This direction complements its ongoing experiments with traditional hotel bookings on the platform.

During Airbnb’s fourth-quarter earnings call, CEO Brian Chesky highlighted the massive opportunity in the hotel sector, stating it would allow the platform to serve users “no matter what kind of stay a guest wants.” The new car service is a concrete component of this broader strategy to own more of the traveler’s journey.
