Final Fantasy XIV modding communities have moved swiftly to eliminate the content of a prominent creator following the exposure of chat logs that revealed involvement in discussions regarding illegal material. The controversy centers on allegations that the modder participated in graphic conversations related to child sexual abuse material (CSAM), prompting immediate action from major platforms within the game’s ecosystem.
The initial allegations surfaced via a YouTube video uploaded by a user named Chunni Doll. The video claimed that the modder, known online as Noffletoff, alongside several other Final Fantasy XIV players, engaged in sharing and discussing CSAM. These interactions allegedly occurred within an invite-only chat room hosted on a Matrix server. This specific server was identified as being focused on loli/shotacon content, a genre often associated with anime-style depictions of minors. Matrix is a decentralized communication protocol similar to Discord, allowing for real-time messaging across various independent servers.
Supporting these claims, the video included a Proton document containing screenshots of the alleged chat logs. Review of this document by Kotaku shows that while explicit descriptions and direct references to victims’ names were censored, the participants can be seen discussing content they had viewed and potentially distributing it to users on another platform called Session. Upon learning of the server’s activities, Matrix administrators intervened, resulting in the shutdown of the server and the banning of the individuals involved.
Noffletoff is well-known in the FFXIV community for developing paid mods that enhance body and animation models, which are frequently utilized to create not-safe-for-work content. In response to the serious nature of the allegations, numerous modding hubs have begun purging his work. Furthermore, Noffletoff has deleted both their Patreon page and X account.
Major hosting platforms have taken decisive steps to distance themselves from the creator. The Final Fantasy XIV Mod Archive (XMA), one of the largest repositories for game modifications, has banned the account linked to Noffletoff. Messages within the XMA Discord server confirmed the suspension, which was enacted after a user inquired about the community’s stance. A moderator stated, “I think it’s reasonable at this point to go ahead to suspend Noffs account (and have done so).”
Similarly, Booty Bay, a Discord server known for facilitating access to pirated FFXIV mods, removed Noffletoff’s content from its repositories. Moderators there also banned the creator from future uploads and prohibited all discussions related to the allegations within the server.
Technical tools used by players are also enforcing these bans. Snowcloak, a program that allows users to view other players’ mods in-game, will now block the display of any files created by Noffletoff. According to messages reviewed by Kotaku, a moderator announced that users attempting to load these mods would receive a warning indicating the file is blocked.
The YouTube video indicated that the individuals implicated in the allegations have been reported to law enforcement authorities. Square Enix, the publisher of Final Fantasy XIV, was contacted for comment regarding the unfolding situation.
