▼ Summary

– Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced a $150 billion annual investment in Taiwan to keep the country at the center of the AI revolution.
– The investment will fund a new Taiwan headquarters for Nvidia, expected to be operational by 2030, cementing Taiwan as a tech manufacturing hub.
– Nvidia’s annual spending in Taiwan has increased from $10-15 billion to $100-150 billion, according to Huang.
– Huang claimed the new Taiwan base will increase Nvidia’s value, though he has not addressed potential conflict with Trump’s push for US AI manufacturing.
– Nvidia began producing AI chips on US soil in 2024, a move seen as appeasing Trump’s domestic manufacturing priority.

In a bold declaration that underscores Taiwan’s central role in the global AI supply chain, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced Wednesday that his company will pour $150 billion annually into the island to keep it at the “epicenter” of the “AI revolution.” The investment, which includes a new Taiwan headquarters, reinforces that Taiwan remains irreplaceable for both short-term and long-term AI industry goals.

“This is where the chips come, packaging comes, this is where the systems are made, this is where AI supercomputers were created,” Huang stated. “The number of partners we work with here in Taiwan, incredible.”

According to Reuters, the massive funding will go toward establishing a new Nvidia headquarters in Taiwan, a project Huang predicts will drive so much innovation that it will lock in Taiwan’s status as “the world’s tech manufacturing hub for a long time.” Nvidia expects the facility to be operational by 2030, with construction breaking ground later this year.

“Four years ago, five years ago, Nvidia was spending about 10, 15 billion dollars a year in Taiwan,” Huang explained at a ceremony marking the headquarters launch. “Now we’re spending 100, going to 150 billion dollars in Taiwan each year.”

Nvidia, currently the world’s most valuable company, made history in 2025 by being the first to hit a $5 trillion market capitalization. Huang boasted that the Taiwan base will ensure Nvidia is “worth even more in three to five years.”

However, Huang has not yet addressed how these plans might clash with Donald Trump’s push to make the United States the global AI hub. Nvidia did not immediately respond to Ars’ request for comment on this apparent tension.

Nvidia needs Taiwan HQ to meet demand

Last April, Nvidia began producing AI chips on US soil for the first time, a move widely seen as an effort to placate Trump, who had been urging American firms to boost domestic manufacturing as a cornerstone of his AI Action Plan.
