Nintendo Switch 2 Price to Rise Later This Year

▼ Summary

– Nintendo announced the Switch 2 MSRP will increase to $499.99 on September 1, a $50 rise from the $449.99 launch price.
– Nintendo cited “changes in market conditions” and “the global business outlook” for the price hike, likely referencing rising RAM and storage costs.
– The Switch 2 price increase follows similar hikes for all three major current consoles, including the PS5 and Xbox Series.
– Sony’s PS5 received its second price increase in March, and the Xbox Series consoles saw their second increase in September.
– Nintendo also raised the price of the original Switch console for the first time last year.

When we reviewed the Nintendo Switch 2 shortly after its launch last year, we advised prospective buyers to consider purchasing early, as the initial price was unlikely to remain static. That forecast has now materialized. Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2’s MSRP will climb to $499.99 starting September 1, representing a $50 increase , roughly 11 percent above its original $449.99 launch price.

The company attributed the impending price adjustment to “changes in market conditions” and “the global business outlook,” factors it expects to persist “over the medium to long term.” Industry observers see this as a clear nod to the rising costs of RAM and storage components, which have pressured hardware manufacturers across the board for several months.

With this move, all three current-generation major consoles have now seen price increases since their respective launches. Sony raised the PS5’s price for the second time in March, just eight months after its first hike. Microsoft followed suit with the Xbox Series consoles, implementing a second price increase in September, five months after the initial one. Nintendo itself raised the price of the aging original Switch for the first time last year, marking a broader trend of upward pricing across the gaming hardware market.
