Apple Reportedly Reaches Deal to Use Intel Chips Again

▼ Summary

– Apple and Intel have reached a preliminary agreement for Intel to manufacture chips for Apple hardware.
– This agreement follows Apple’s previous transition away from Intel-powered computers to its own Apple Silicon chips.
– Intel appointed Lip-Bu Tan as its new CEO in March 2025.
– In August, the U.S. government took a 10 percent stake in Intel.
– It remains unclear which Apple products will use the Intel chips.

Apple has reportedly entered into a preliminary agreement with Intel to once again use the chipmaker’s processors in its hardware, according to a Friday report from The Wall Street Journal. This marks a significant shift for the tech giant, which famously ended its reliance on Intel chips during its highly successful transition to Apple Silicon in recent years.

The deal comes on the heels of major changes at Intel. Lip-Bu Tan was appointed as the company’s new CEO in March 2025, and just months later, in August, the U. S. government acquired a 10 percent stake in the semiconductor firm.

The Wall Street Journal notes that it remains “still unclear” which specific Apple products will feature Intel chips under this new arrangement. Both Apple and Intel declined to comment when contacted by The Verge.

This development follows a Bloomberg report from earlier this week that indicated Apple was exploring the possibility of using both Intel and Samsung to manufacture its primary device chips within the United States.
