Spotify is rolling out a significant update to its Android app, introducing playlist folders, a new “Reshuffle” feature for your queue, and other improvements designed to streamline organization and control. These changes bring long-requested desktop functionality to mobile users.

The update includes four main enhancements, though only three apply to Android. The fourth, background downloads on iOS, is a notable omission for Android, which has supported this feature for years. It remains surprising that iOS users must keep the app open to download content offline, a limitation shared by many third-party apps.

For Android users, the most anticipated addition is playlist folders. Previously a desktop-exclusive tool for organizing playlists and saved albums, users can now create and manage folders directly on mobile through the “+” menu. This makes it easier to group related music without switching devices.

The playlist and queue controls have also been upgraded. Users can now select multiple tracks at once to remove them from a queue or playlist, saving time during cleanup. Additionally, the queue now includes a one-tap “Reshuffle” button that instantly randomizes the order, eliminating the need to double-tap the shuffle icon.

These updates are rolling out now, but most features, including playlist folders and the Reshuffle button, are exclusive to Premium subscribers. The only exception is the ability to select multiple tracks, which is available to all users.
