American Airlines has officially confirmed its plan to bring SpaceX’s Starlink Wi-Fi onboard hundreds of its aircraft, marking another major win for Elon Musk’s satellite internet service in the commercial aviation sector. The announcement, made today, positions the carrier to deliver what it describes as the fastest in-flight connectivity available.

The rollout is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027, covering more than 500 planes. This fleet includes the airline’s upcoming A321XLR and A321neo models from Airbus. With this move, Starlink joins Viastat and SES (formerly Intelstat) as one of the primary Wi-Fi providers for American Airlines.

American is not alone in this shift. It joins a growing list of major carriers that have already turned to Starlink, including United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Lufthansa Group, British Airways, Qatar Airways, Alaska Airlines, and Hawaiian Airlines. Delta Air Lines, notably, has not yet announced a similar partnership with the service.
