Google has rolled out Android Canary 2605, a preview build that significantly expands the use of blur effects across the system UI on Pixel devices. This latest experimental release, carrying the build number ZP11.260417.009 and the May 2026 security patch, is compatible with a wide range of Pixel hardware, from the Pixel 6 series and Pixel Tablet up through the newest Pixel 10a and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. As is standard for Canary builds, Google warns that these versions are “highly experimental and are NOT recommended for general use.”

The focus of this update is on visual refinement through translucency. Last year’s Android 16 QPR1 first introduced blur to the Notifications and Quick Settings panels, and by Android 17 Beta 4, the widget picker was the only remaining UI element to receive this treatment. Now, with Android Canary 2605, the blur effect has been applied to the pill-shaped volume slider container. This subtle change lets users see more of their home screen background or any app running beneath the volume controls.

The expanded blur doesn’t stop there. The full volume panel now also features a blurred backdrop, creating a more cohesive visual experience. The power menu similarly blurs the background behind it. Additionally, when you long-press on the Pixel Launcher to access options like Wallpaper & style, Widgets, Apps list, and Home settings, the background will appear softer and more integrated.

In terms of other changes, the light theme remains present, but the App lock feature has been removed from this particular build. Google notes that the update is still in progress, with further refinements expected.
