Canon EOS R6 V Drops EVF, Adds Internal Fan for Cooling

▼ Summary
– The R6 III is a camera model that now includes a fan.
– This version of the R6 III lacks an electronic viewfinder (EVF).
Canon has officially introduced the EOS R6 V, a video-focused variant of its popular R6 III that trades the electronic viewfinder for an internal cooling fan. This new model is designed specifically for content creators who prioritize extended recording times over traditional viewfinder functionality.
The most notable change is the removal of the EVF, a move that reduces weight and production cost while freeing up internal space. In its place, Canon has integrated an active cooling system that allows for uninterrupted 4K recording without overheating concerns. This addresses a common limitation in mirrorless cameras used for long-form video production.
Under the hood, the R6 V retains the same 24.2MP full-frame sensor and DIGIC X processor found in the R6 III, ensuring identical image quality and autofocus performance. The camera supports oversampled 4K at up to 60fps and Cinema 4K at 120fps, with Canon Log 3 and HDR PQ profiles included for professional color grading workflows.
Other features include a fully articulating touchscreen, dual SD card slots, and a micro-HDMI port for external monitoring. The body is slightly thinner than the standard R6 III due to the removed EVF hump, making it more compact for gimbal use. Battery life remains unchanged with the LP-E6NH pack, but the fan system draws additional power during extended shoots.
The Canon EOS R6 V is expected to ship in late May, priced competitively below the R6 III to attract videographers and live-streamers who value thermal reliability over optical viewfinders. Pre-orders open next week through authorized retailers.
