PlayStation has begun reaching out directly to PS4 users, urging them to upgrade to a PS5 ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6‘s anticipated launch this November. The message, targeted at players who have the game on their wishlists or have spent significant hours on GTA 5, reads: “Grand Theft Auto 6 is on your wishlist. Get a PlayStation 5 today to be ready for when Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on 19th November, 2026.”
At first glance, this looks like standard hardware promotion from Sony. But the timing is significant. Coming six months before the scheduled release date, this email offers the strongest signal yet that development is on track and that the November launch window will hold. After two previous delays, this kind of direct communication from the platform holder suggests confidence in Rockstar’s timeline.
The marketing push also hints that Rockstar could soon ramp up its campaign. Fans have been waiting over a year for the third major teaser trailer. The last one dropped on May 8, 2025, meaning we are now overdue for a fresh look at the game.
Over the weekend, additional confirmation surfaced. The ESRB has officially rated GTA 6 as M for Mature 17+, citing blood and gore, intense violence, mature humour, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and drug and alcohol use. PlayStation’s recent emails also reflect this rating, even though Rockstar’s website still lists it as “Rating Pending.”
For PC players, the news remains disappointing. All current marketing materials continue to reference only a console release. That leaves PC gamers waiting for an announcement that may not come until well after the console launch.
Industry analysts estimate that Take-Two Interactive has invested between $1 billion and $1.5 billion into the development of GTA 6. As for pricing, CEO Strauss Zelnick has said the company’s “job is to charge way, way, way less of the value delivery,” though he has not given a specific figure. A report from early last year suggested the game could retail for as much as $100.
On the technical side, Zelnick has dismissed concerns about getting GTA 6 to run smoothly on the Xbox Series S. He stated that the team will “find a way to support platforms despite different levels of tech,” adding, “Our labels are really good at that. I’m not really worried.”
With the November 19 release date now looking more locked in than ever, the countdown to what could be the biggest game launch in history has truly begun.
