Samsung has officially unveiled its latest mid-tier smartphones, the Galaxy A57 and A37, introducing a more refined design and enhanced durability at a higher price point. Both models now feature IP68 water-resistance, a significant upgrade from last year, and benefit from a suite of new AI capabilities. The spotlight, however, falls on the pricier A57, which receives a more substantial physical redesign. This model is now notably thinner and lighter, with a slimmer bezel contributing to a more modern look. The trade-off for these improvements is a $50 price increase for each phone compared to their predecessors.
Positioned as a competitor to the Google Pixel 10A and iPhone 17E, the $549.99 Galaxy A57 aims to stand out with its sleek profile. Samsung has managed to slim the device down to a mere 6.9mm thick and reduce its weight to 179 grams. This was accomplished while retaining a Gorilla Glass Victus+ body and a metal frame, giving the phone a solid, premium feel in hand, even if its midrange origins remain apparent. In the United States, the color choice is limited to a single navy blue option, though international markets will have access to gray, light blue, and lilac variants.
Beyond the slimmer build, the A57’s upgrades include the jump to IP68 certification and the reduction of the display bezel. Internally, the changes are more incremental. The phone now uses the newer Exynos 1680 chipset, replacing last year’s 1580, which should deliver faster performance and modest gains in photo processing. A larger cooling chamber is also part of the package. For the most part, however, the core specifications carry over from the previous generation.
The more affordable $449.99 Galaxy A37 does not share the same design overhaul. It maintains a thickness of 7.4mm and a weight of 196g, though it remains a reasonably slim device. From the rear, it is remarkably similar to the A57, with the most telling differences being its slightly thicker body and the absence of visible antenna lines, a result of its plastic frame. The A37 launches in the US with a full palette of colors: charcoal, gray-green, white, and lavender.
Despite its lower price, the A37 receives meaningful spec improvements. It adopts the new Exynos 1480 chipset and gains the same 50-megapixel main camera sensor found in the A57. Its display also matches the A57 with a peak brightness of 1900 nits, ensuring strong outdoor visibility.
Both phones share several key features, including large 5,000mAh batteries and support for 45W wired charging. This charging speed actually outpaces Samsung’s current flagship, the S26, though neither A-series model includes wireless charging. The camera systems are identical on paper, pairing the main sensor with basic ultrawide, macro, and selfie shooters. Samsung promises a strong software commitment, with six years of Android OS upgrades and security patches for both devices.
New AI features are also standard at launch. Users can choose between the Bixby or Gemini assistants, and both phones include upgraded Circle to Search functionality alongside AI transcription tools for the recorder and voicemail apps. Notably absent, however, is the more advanced task automation that allows Gemini to handle actions like booking rides, a feature currently exclusive to recent flagship models.
The new Galaxy A57 and A37 are scheduled to go on sale in the US starting April 9th, with a UK release following on April 10th. The A37 starts at $449.99 for a configuration with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The A57 begins at $549.99 for 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, with pricing and available memory configurations varying by region.
