In a significant move to bolster digital safety, the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) and Ehsan Center have jointly organized a specialized workshop focused on personal data protection and secure mobile phone usage. This event forms a key component of the national celebrations marking the 160th anniversary of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The initiative is part of the CRA’s broader strategy to foster responsible use of digital technologies, aiming to build public confidence in Qatar’s Information and Communications Technology sector. These efforts directly support the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, which envisions a digitally literate and secure society.

During the interactive sessions, CRA specialists provided hands-on guidance, showing attendees how to adjust privacy settings on their mobile devices, recognize potentially harmful applications, and manage data access permissions wisely. Practical conversations also covered ways to improve privacy on widely used messaging and social platforms like WhatsApp, equipping participants with actionable strategies to minimize their exposure to online threats.

Amel Salem Al-Hanawi, Director of the Consumer Affairs Department at CRA, emphasized that raising awareness is fundamental to digital protection. She noted, “Our goal with this workshop was to give elderly individuals the tools they need to safeguard their digital privacy and make well-informed choices regarding their personal information. We are dedicated to direct community engagement, turning our consumer protection responsibilities into real-world actions that enhance trust and digital resilience.”

Shaikha Ahmed Al-Horaib, Acting Director of the Social Awareness and Community Outreach Department at Ehsan Center, added, “Partnering with the Communications Regulatory Authority aligns with our ongoing mission to advance safe digital literacy among older adults. We want to empower them to use modern technology with assurance and security. This collaboration underscores the Center’s dedication to helping the elderly adapt to digital transformation, boosting their capacity to protect private data and engage with technology in a mindful manner that supports both their safety and quality of life.”

The CRA highlighted that this workshop demonstrates its continued cooperation with community organizations to extend the impact of national programs commemorating the ITU’s 160-year milestone. Ensuring that all members of society, including vulnerable groups, are included in consumer protection and national digital security efforts remains a priority. Both the CRA and Ehsan Center reaffirmed their joint pledge to sustain such programs, which play a vital role in encouraging responsible technology adoption and fostering a secure, sustainable digital environment in Qatar.
