Sennheiser has introduced the HDB 630, marking the company’s inaugural high-resolution audiophile wireless headphones. These new over-ear models merge the acclaimed sound precision of the classic HD 600 series with the modern convenience of wireless listening, delivering studio-grade audio quality without the constraints of cables.
While the Momentum 4 Wireless headphones already offer an appealing mix of comfort, features, and sound, the HDB 630 targets a more demanding audience. Sennheiser positions them as its first high-res audiophile wireless product, engineered to bring the signature clarity of the HD6 range into a portable, cable-free design.
A standout feature is the inclusion of the BTD 700 USB-C Bluetooth transmitter in the box. This small accessory enables high-resolution streaming on smartphones and tablets that don’t natively support aptX HD codecs. Sennheiser notes that only about 16% of smartphones support wireless hi-res audio out of the box, but with the BTD 700 dongle, that compatibility jumps to roughly 80% of devices via their USB-C port.
Using the aptX Adaptive codec, the transmitter allows streaming at up to 24-bit/96kHz quality, significantly higher than standard Bluetooth. It also intelligently adjusts performance based on your surroundings, reducing resolution in congested wireless areas to maintain a stable connection with minimal dropouts.
The HDB 630 promises twice the resolution of the Momentum 4 Wireless, along with reliable connectivity in varied environments. Multipoint Bluetooth lets you pair with two devices at once, while built-in adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC) works to block distractions without sacrificing audio clarity.
Inside, refined 42mm drivers are acoustically tuned to balance the headphone’s compact form with ample airflow. Sennheiser applied what it calls “pure audiophile tuning” for a smoother response in the upper midrange and lower treble, supporting a frequency range from 6Hz to 40kHz. For the ultimate listening experience, you can also use the included USB-C or 3.5mm audio cables to enjoy lossless 24-bit/96kHz audio in wired mode.
Battery life reaches up to 45 hours with hi-res streaming and ANC activated, extending to 60 hours when using standard codecs and turning noise cancellation off.
Through the Smart Control Plus app, users gain access to a detailed parametric equalizer and crossfeed functions. While the standard five-band EQ allows basic adjustments, the parametric EQ offers deeper control, letting audiophiles shape their preferred frequency response with precision. An A/B comparison tool helps analyze changes, and a future update will enable sharing custom EQ presets via QR code.
The crossfeed setting, inspired by Sennheiser’s flagship HE 1 model, blends left and right audio channels for a more natural, speaker-like soundstage, especially useful with older mono recordings or hard-panned mixes.
Ergonomically, the HDB 630 adopts a closed-back design with earcups that resist fingerprints. The adjustable headband uses Japanese Protein Leatherette for lasting comfort during extended listening sessions.
According to Wee Hong Kuan, Sennheiser’s Senior Product Manager, “We set out to deliver a compelling option for audiophiles who want to keep the same level of quality they’re used to with their wired headphones while enabling them to enjoy it everywhere, and out of the box, the HDB 630 brings a truly unique combination of fidelity and customization.”
Priced at £399.90 / $499.95 / €499.90, the HDB 630 sits above the Momentum 4 Wireless and will compete with premium rivals like the Sony WH-1000XM6 and Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3. Pre-orders are available now, with global shipping beginning October 21st.
