Microsoft has once again pushed back its highly anticipated Fable reboot, this time delaying the title to February 2027. Originally slated for an autumn 2026 release, the game will now arrive a few months later, though fans won’t have to wait that long for a fresh glimpse. The company confirmed it will debut a “new look” at the game during its Xbox Games Showcase on June 7th.
In a post on the Xbox account on X, Microsoft explained the reasoning behind the shift. “This year is packed with incredible games for Xbox players to enjoy, from Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 to Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Grand Theft Auto VI,” the statement reads. “In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves. We’re excited to be giving players a major new look at Fable, as well as our broader lineup, at Xbox Games Showcase on June 7.”
The fall gaming calendar is already crowded. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for November 19th, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 was announced this week with an October 23rd release date, and Star Wars: Galactic Racer is set for October 6th. Microsoft is expected to reveal exact launch dates for Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, and other titles during its June showcase.
Developed by Playground Games, the Fable reboot was first revealed in 2020 as a “new beginning” for the beloved franchise. After years of silence, Microsoft initially targeted a 2025 release window before pushing it to 2026. The game is set to launch on Xbox Series X / S, PC, and PS5.
In a separate announcement, Matt Booty, Xbox’s chief content officer, said during the Official Xbox Podcast released on Friday that Microsoft will not share any news about Project Helix, its next-generation Xbox console, at the June showcase. Earlier this month, the company promised to provide more details about Helix “later this year.”
