Hamster’s ongoing Console Archives series could soon expand into territory far older than the Famicom. In a recent interview with Famitsu, the company’s chief technology officer, Takamitsu Shimomura, addressed the possibility of including pre-Famicom Nintendo hardware in the lineup , specifically the Color TV-Game series.

“Mmmm. I don’t think it’s impossible, I think I’d like to try,” Shimomura said, as translated by Nintendo Everything. “After all, we do have a dream to archive every home game in this series.”

Originally launched in 1977, the Color TV-Game line predates Nintendo’s iconic Famicom by several years. The series included five distinct units: Color TV-Game 6, Color TV-Game 15, Color TV-Game Racing 112, Color TV-Game Block Kuzushi, and Computer TV-Game. Each offered a different experience, ranging from simple Pong-like tennis to a Breakout-style block breaker. While these titles are small in scope, their inclusion would be a significant win for video game preservation and for fans eager to explore Nintendo’s earliest home console efforts.

This wouldn’t be the first time Hamster and Nintendo have collaborated. The two companies previously worked together on the Arcade Archives line, releasing titles such as Vs. Super Mario Bros. and Super Punch-Out. Their partnership even led to the re-release of the obscure arcade title Sky Skipper. All of these games are currently available on the Nintendo eShop.

Console Archives recently added a major title with the launch of Ninja Gaiden 3: The Ancient Ship of Doom. If Nintendo and Hamster do move forward with Color TV-Game support, it could mark a fascinating new chapter in the series’ mission to preserve gaming history.
