Xbox CEO Asha Sharma addressed employees in an all-hands meeting this morning, outlining a vision for what she called a “return of Xbox.” A key part of that agenda involves reevaluating Xbox exclusive games and the timing of title releases, a shift that has stirred intense debate among fans since Microsoft began porting major franchises to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

However, the company is stopping short of a definitive promise to bring exclusives back. In a joint memo sent to staff today, Sharma and Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty stated, “Along the way, we will reevaluate our approach to exclusivity, windowing, and AI, and share more as we learn and decide.” The announcement comes as a surprise to many who were taken aback by Microsoft’s earlier decision to open its library to rival consoles.

Reversing that strategy is no simple task, largely due to the significant revenue generated from titles like Forza Horizon 5 on competing platforms. Instead of a full retreat, Microsoft may consider windowed exclusivity , releasing its own first-party games on Xbox and PC first, with a delayed launch on PlayStation. Forza Horizon 6 could serve as a test case for this model, arriving on Xbox and PC before eventually hitting PS5.

The memo also touched on Xbox’s broader “master plan,” emphasizing the need to be “honest about where we are.” The company’s new north star metric is daily active players, with priorities now centered on hardware, content, experiences, and services.
