WhatsApp has officially begun distributing a significant interface update to its iOS application, introducing a new profile tab that replaces the traditional Settings menu. This change, now appearing in the App Store release notes for version 16.5.10.73, transforms the bottom-right corner of the app into a personalized space called “You.” The primary goal is to streamline account management and user identity controls, marking a clear move toward the eventual introduction of multi-account functionality that Meta has been developing.
The most noticeable shift is the replacement of the standard gear icon with the user’s own profile picture. This visual cue makes it simple to see which account is currently active at just a glance, a design approach already familiar to users of Instagram and Threads when they switch between profiles on a single device. The newly designed “You” page itself centralizes options for managing your account and expressing your identity.
Alongside this tab redesign, WhatsApp is also testing a refreshed profile page layout for a select group of users. This experimental update adds a large default cover photo at the top of the profile screen, creating a more personalized header. It’s important to note that this particular aspect of the update remains under limited availability. For the few who can see it, the cover photo currently cannot be changed; that customization option is expected in a future software release.
As with many phased rollouts from WhatsApp, this new profile tab may not be immediately visible to all iOS users. The deployment can take several days or even weeks to complete across the global user base. Some features, like the Liquid Glass interface announced months ago, still haven’t reached every device, indicating that patience may be required before the “You” tab becomes universally available on iPhones.
