The annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is in full swing, and the first official day has delivered a wave of exciting announcements. From groundbreaking concept devices to more accessible high-performance components, the show floor is buzzing with innovation. Lenovo’s rollable laptop concepts and a comprehensive refresh of Asus’s ROG and ZenBook laptop lines are capturing significant attention, while developments in affordable PCIe 5.0 SSD technology promise to bring next-gen storage speeds to a broader audience.

Lenovo is once again showcasing its vision for the future with a pair of intriguing concept laptops. The Legion Pro Rollable appears as a standard 16-inch OLED device, but its screen can unfurl horizontally. This transforms it into a 21.5-inch display for a tactical view or a full 24-inch panel for an immersive arena experience. It’s designed to run on Intel Core Ultra processors paired with RTX 50-Series graphics. The second concept, the ThinkPad Rollable XD, takes a different approach. Its screen expands vertically, growing from a compact 13.3 inches to a more spacious 16-inch display, offering a unique take on portable screen real estate.

Meanwhile, Asus has unveiled a substantial lineup of new hardware. The gaming-focused ROG Zephyrus series sees updates with the G14 and G16 models. The Zephyrus G16 is configured exclusively with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 chips, while the G14 provides a choice between Core Ultra or Ryzen AI processors. Display options are also a highlight, with the G14 offering a 120 Hz 3K panel and the G16 featuring a 240 Hz 2.5K screen. For those seeking powerful performance in a portable form, the TUF Gaming A14 packs an AMD Strix Halo processor into a slim 14-inch chassis with a 1600p, 165 Hz display.

For productivity users, Asus has refreshed its Zenbook series. The premium S-Series will be available with next-generation Panther Lake or AMD Ryzen AI 400 processors, up to 32GB of memory, and vibrant 3K OLED displays with 120 Hz refresh rates. The more accessible A-Series comes in 14- and 16-inch sizes, with the smaller model featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite chip and the larger one offering the X2 Elite Extreme variant. Beyond laptops, Asus displayed the ROG Cronox, a panoramic PC case with a built-in 9.2-inch display and rotatable fans, and the ROG Kithara, an open-back planar magnetic gaming headset developed with HiFiMan.

In the component space, PCIe 5.0 SSD technology is becoming more attainable. Micron has announced its 3610 SSD is now shipping to partners. Utilizing QLC NAND, it delivers sequential performance around 11,000 Mbps, a significant step up from PCIe 4.0 drives, and will be available in compact 2230 form factors with capacities up to 4TB. Controller manufacturer Phison is also pushing the efficiency envelope with its new PS5037-E37T controller. Aimed at value-conscious builds, it maintains strong sequential read and write speeds of 14.7 Gbps and 13 Gbps, respectively, while keeping active power consumption under 2.3 watts.

The first day at CES featured numerous other product reveals and hands-on demonstrations, setting the stage for a week of technological showcases and industry trends.
