Fergus, a prominent provider of job management software for tradespeople across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and the USA, has introduced a new tap-to-pay feature designed to speed up payment collection. This innovation allows trades professionals to accept instant payments directly on their mobile devices without needing extra hardware. Clients simply tap their credit or debit card, or use a digital wallet, on the tradesperson’s phone screen to complete the transaction.
This tap-to-pay capability is integrated into the Fergus Pay system, which is powered by Stripe. By eliminating the need for manual entry of payment details, the feature simplifies the entire payment workflow. Mark Bartels, CEO of Fergus, explained that users can now finalize a job on-site and receive payment immediately by tapping the client’s card or phone. He emphasized that this removes the inconvenience of traditional payment terminals and reduces the time spent following up on invoices.
An important enhancement is the auto-reconciliation function that accompanies each transaction. Once a payment is made, it is automatically logged and matched within the Fergus platform. This eliminates manual data entry and cuts down on administrative tasks, giving business owners more time to focus on their core work.
Bartels added, “For trades professionals, Fergus serves as the central hub for all operational activities, from quoting and invoicing to job costing and payment processing. Tap2Pay represents a major step forward by accelerating cash flow and creating new opportunities to get paid as soon as work is finished. The ideal moment to request payment is right after completing a job, when customer satisfaction is high. This feature is a game-changer for tradespeople looking to receive payments quickly.”
Looking ahead, Fergus is developing buy now, pay later (BNPL) functionality to offer clients more payment flexibility. This option is expected to launch later in the year.
Since its establishment in 2012, Fergus has equipped trades professionals with a comprehensive suite of tools covering quoting, scheduling, timesheets, workforce tracking, health and safety compliance, automated supplier invoice integration, and detailed profit reporting. Its mobile app helps users manage administrative duties on the go. Serving more than 23,000 tradespeople globally, Fergus integrates seamlessly with major accounting platforms like Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks. Through the platform, customers have processed billions in revenue, benefiting from streamlined payment systems that help them get paid faster and operate more efficiently.
