– Kolmann brings extensive experience from Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, where he designed quests, the crime system, and the Hardcore mode as a senior and lead designer.
– The Witcher 4 team has a similar number of senior quest designers as The Witcher 3, suggesting a comparable or larger volume of quest content.
– The game is estimated to release between 2027 and 2028, though no official window has been announced.

The development team behind the highly anticipated The Witcher 4 has expanded with the addition of Karel Kolmann, a seasoned professional from Warhorse Studios. Kolmann, who spent nearly a decade contributing to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, joins CD Projekt Red in a senior capacity as the new Witcher title accelerates its production phase.

CD Projekt Red officially confirmed work on the fourth main Witcher game back in March 2022, when the project was still in pre-production. A cinematic trailer unveiled at The Game Awards later confirmed Ciri as the protagonist, signaling a major step forward for the franchise.

Kolmann’s transition to The Witcher 4 team was personally announced via his LinkedIn profile, following an eight-year tenure at Warhorse Studios. During his time there, he held several key roles, including senior game designer and lead gameplay designer. His contributions to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 were substantial: he designed the game’s Hardcore mode, created 11 distinct quests, handling all associated dialogue and partial scripting, and developed the crime system that dictates how non-player characters react to unlawful player behavior.

Currently, The Witcher 4 is in full production, and CD Projekt Red continues to staff the project with experienced developers. Kolmann’s role is remote, and his official title is senior quest designer. Public LinkedIn data indicates that CDPR now employs more than a dozen individuals in that same role, a number comparable to the 16 senior quest designers credited on The Witcher 3. By contrast, Cyberpunk 2077 listed only six senior quest designers, though it featured numerous junior designers as well.

This staffing level suggests that The Witcher 4 may feature a quest volume on par with The Witcher 3, one of the most content-rich RPGs of the last decade. The final amount of content could be even larger if the studio brings in external freelancers for additional quest design, though such contributions are often not visible until a game’s credits are published. While an official release date has not been announced, industry analysts project The Witcher 4 could launch between 2027 and 2028.
