Supercell has officially confirmed the end of active development for its mobile title Squad Busters, which will see its servers taken offline in 2026. The game, originally launched in May 2024, will remain playable until at least the middle of that year, marking an 18-month lifespan for the ambitious crossover project. The decision reflects Supercell’s commitment to maintaining only the highest-performing titles in its portfolio, even when that means retiring a game that fell short of internal and player expectations.
In-app purchases have already been suspended across all platforms. Players who made any purchase during 2025 are eligible to request a transfer of their spent value to another Supercell game. Options include popular titles like Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, Clash of Clans, Hay Day, or Boom Beach, offering a way for dedicated fans to retain some benefit from their investment.
In a statement, the company emphasized its culture of learning from setbacks. “At Supercell, we treat failures as opportunities to grow, and Squad Busters gave us a chance to apply insights from earlier games that had lengthy beta phases,” the developer explained. “Our goal was to accelerate development, embrace creative risks, and gather feedback from a worldwide audience rather than remain in limited release for years.”
“Ultimately, we recognized that we had missed the mark. The game failed to meet the lofty standards that our community expects and that we set for ourselves. By early 2025, we reached a critical decision point: accept that Squad Busters might never achieve the global impact we envisioned, or take a major creative gamble. We chose the latter path.”
That gamble took the form of the Heroes update, described as the most significant live game overhaul in Supercell’s history. This substantial change aimed to reinvent Squad Busters’ identity and mechanics. Despite the development team’s dedicated work and ongoing player support, the update could not resolve the title’s underlying issues.
A final update is scheduled for December, after which no further content or features will be added. The team behind Squad Busters will transition to working on new projects as well as supporting the company’s existing live games. As a gesture of gratitude, Supercell is distributing free in-game bundles to all players, thanking them for their time, enthusiasm, and participation throughout the game’s journey.
