The social media platform X has introduced a significant upgrade to its Creator Subscriptions, rolling out a suite of new features aimed at helping content producers build sustainable income streams. This move signals a deeper investment in the creator economy, positioning X to compete more directly with established platforms like YouTube and Instagram. The enhancements focus on simplifying monetization, improving creator tools, and fostering stronger connections between creators and their most dedicated followers.

A central addition is the launch of exclusive threads. This feature allows creators to monetize conversations directly on the platform, eliminating the need to redirect audiences to external websites or newsletters. Creators can post a teaser for a thread, and interested users can subscribe to unlock the full conversation. Notably, this subscriber-only content will now be integrated into the creator’s main profile feed for greater visibility, rather than being hidden in a separate tab.

To help creators promote and analyze their work, X is introducing a shareable Subscriptions card for marketing and a new dashboard for tracking earnings and subscriber insights. The subscription setup process has also been streamlined to just two steps, with faster application reviews to get creators started quickly. A refreshed paywall now lets creators clearly highlight the benefits of subscribing.

“We are doubling down on creators, the platform’s most influential experts, thought leaders, and voices, by investing in tools that enable sustainable incomes and deeper connections with their audiences,” said Allegra Jacchia of X’s Creators Product team. The company emphasizes its belief that creators deserve compensation for the value they bring to the community.

X also formally announced its recently launched “Paid partnership” label, a built-in tool for compliance with advertising disclosure rules. The label appears directly below a post’s content and can be added retrospectively if initially forgotten, providing a cleaner alternative to using hashtags.

These subscription updates arrive alongside other platform news, including beta tests for a standalone messaging app and a payments service. X also clarified a policy, stating that creators who post unlabeled AI-generated videos depicting armed conflict will be suspended from its revenue-sharing program.

That program, which launched globally last year, has paid out over $45 million to creators to date, according to data shared by X’s integrated AI assistant. The company has reportedly more than doubled the available revenue pool for 2026, attributed to growth in X Premium subscriptions. Some creators have recently noted increased payouts, and X has incentivized long-form article creation with a separate $1 million campaign.

While designed to reward popular content, the revenue-sharing initiative has faced some criticism for potentially incentivizing sensationalist posts. X counters that many top earners are analysts, such as stock traders offering market insights. Despite these pushes, the majority of X’s revenue still stems from advertising, not premium subscriptions or creator-driven content.
