Meta has officially launched its new short-form video platform, Vibes, across Europe through the Meta AI app. This feature offers a continuous stream of AI-generated videos, functioning similarly to popular feeds like TikTok or Instagram Reels, but with every piece of content created entirely by artificial intelligence. The European debut follows the initial U.S. release just six weeks prior, arriving shortly after OpenAI introduced its own AI video platform, Sora.
With Vibes, users can both produce and share their own AI-generated short videos while exploring a dedicated feed filled with content from other creators. Meta emphasizes that the feed will progressively tailor itself to individual user preferences, becoming more aligned with personal interests over time.
The creation process is designed to be flexible and interactive. You can generate a video from a simple text prompt or choose to remix an existing video from another user. Options include adding new visual elements, incorporating music, or applying different stylistic filters to match your creative vision.
Meta describes the experience as inherently social and collaborative. In a recent blog post, the company stated that Vibes encourages users to remix, co-create, and build stories collectively with friends. Videos can be shared directly within the Vibes feed, sent privately to friends, or cross-posted to Instagram and Facebook Stories and Reels.
When CEO Mark Zuckerberg first previewed the feed back in September, the reaction from users was largely skeptical. Many questioned the demand for an AI-powered alternative to established video platforms. One highly engaged comment on his announcement read, “gang nobody wants this,” while another user remarked, “Bro’s posting ai slop on his own app.” A different comment simply expressed widespread confusion, stating, “I think I speak for everyone when I say: What….?”
This move into AI-generated content comes at a time when other major platforms are moving in the opposite direction. For instance, YouTube has recently taken steps to limit the spread of what is often termed “AI slop”, referring to the flood of low-quality, automatically generated material overwhelming some social networks.
Meta’s introduction of Vibes is especially notable given the company’s own earlier guidance to creators. Earlier this year, Meta communicated a focus on tackling “unoriginal” content and advised creators to prioritize “authentic storytelling” over short videos that provide little value. Despite this previous stance, the company is now promoting Vibes enthusiastically, reporting that media generation within the Meta AI app has surged more than tenfold since the feature’s initial launch.
