Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced plans to significantly increase the presence of AI-generated content across the company’s social media platforms. During a recent earnings call, Zuckerberg revealed that Meta intends to incorporate a massive new collection of AI-created material into its recommendation systems. He explained that artificial intelligence technology is simplifying the process of creating and remixing content that eventually appears in user feeds.

Zuckerberg outlined what he sees as the evolution of social media, describing two distinct historical phases. The initial era featured content exclusively from personal connections, friends, family members, and directly followed accounts. This was followed by what he termed the second era, characterized by the introduction of creator content. While not explicitly labeling AI as the third era, his comments strongly suggest the technology will play a central role in social media’s next chapter.

The tech executive emphasized that recommendation systems capable of thoroughly understanding AI-generated posts and delivering appropriate content to users will grow increasingly important. Meta has already integrated AI tools throughout its family of applications and is currently testing specialized AI-focused social applications.

Company executives provided specific examples of this AI-driven content expansion. Meta CFO Susan Li disclosed that users have created more than twenty billion images using the company’s new Vibes application, which features a continuous stream of AI-generated videos comparable to OpenAI’s Sora platform. Zuckerberg characterized Vibes as representing a new category of content made possible by artificial intelligence, suggesting numerous additional opportunities for developing innovative content formats in the future.

The announcement came alongside strong financial results, with Meta reporting quarterly revenue of $51.24 billion, representing a twenty-six percent increase compared to the same period last year. The company did record a one-time tax charge of $15.93 billion related to legislation passed during the previous administration.
