TII and NVIDIA Launch Middle East’s First AI and Robotics Lab

▼ Summary

Abu Dhabi’s Technology Innovation Institute and NVIDIA have launched the Middle East’s first joint NVAITC AI and Robotics Lab.
– This initiative integrates NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platforms with TII’s research in AI, robotics, and autonomous systems.
– The lab will use NVIDIA’s Thor chip to advance research in robotics and develop intelligent autonomous systems.
– The UAE has been investing heavily in AI development and recently signed a multi-billion-dollar deal to build a major data center hub using NVIDIA technology.
– The U.S. and UAE governments have also established the U.S.-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership to strengthen collaboration on critical technologies.

A major new partnership is set to accelerate artificial intelligence and robotics innovation across the Middle East. The Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and NVIDIA have officially launched the region’s first joint AI and Robotics Lab, marking a significant milestone in the development of advanced intelligent systems. This collaboration establishes a robust ecosystem dedicated to pushing the boundaries of Generative AI, embodied AI, and robotics research.

The newly formed TII-NVAITC Joint Lab will combine NVIDIA’s industry-leading accelerated computing platforms with TII’s extensive multidisciplinary expertise in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and high-performance computing. This initiative supports Abu Dhabi’s broader strategic vision to achieve technological sovereignty and play a defining role in the future of intelligent automation.

According to Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, the partnership will grant the institute access to specialized edge GPU chips, including the newly introduced Thor chip, designed specifically to enable breakthroughs in advanced robotic systems development. Aaraj noted that discussions for the joint lab began approximately a year ago, and the facility will host collaborative teams from both organizations, with plans for additional recruitment to support project expansion.

The United Arab Emirates, a global leader in energy exports, has been making substantial investments in artificial intelligence, capitalizing on its strong international relationships to secure next-generation technology. Earlier this year, the UAE signed a multibillion-dollar agreement to construct one of the world’s largest data center hubs in Abu Dhabi, utilizing advanced NVIDIA chips. This project was announced during a high-profile visit by U.S. officials, accompanied by agreements totaling over $200 billion.

Further strengthening cross-border technological cooperation, the U.S. and UAE governments introduced the U.S.-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership, a framework designed to enhance collaboration in critical and emerging technologies. This lab represents another concrete step in the UAE’s committed strategy to become a global hub for AI research and application.
