Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is strengthening its collaboration with Chinese energy leaders to accelerate the emirate’s transition toward a sustainable future. A high-level team led by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, recently visited China to explore partnerships in renewable energy and advanced storage systems. This initiative supports Dubai’s broader strategy to source all its power from clean energy by mid-century.
The timing of the visit coincides with a major milestone: DEWA has entered the tendering process for the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This ambitious phase will introduce 2,000 megawatts of photovoltaic solar capacity alongside a massive 1,400MW battery storage system capable of supplying power for six hours. Developed using the Independent Power Producer model, the project is set to become one of the largest integrated solar and storage facilities worldwide.
Joining Al Tayer on the delegation were several senior executives, including Waleed bin Salman, Hussain Lootah, Marwan bin Haidar, Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Mohammed Jamea, and Ghanim Al Qassim. Their collective expertise spans business development, transmission, innovation, human resources, and clean energy diversification, underscoring the comprehensive nature of the collaboration.
This effort is closely aligned with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to position Dubai as a global leader in the green economy. The visit supports the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net-Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, both targeting 100% clean energy power generation within the next three decades.
DEWA has maintained productive relationships with numerous Chinese firms involved in renewable energy projects, many of which contribute significantly to the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. During the trip, the delegation engaged with top technology innovators, including Huawei for AI-driven grid solutions, BYD for electric mobility and storage, Tesla’s BESS factory for large-scale battery systems, Sungrow for solar inverters, and CRRC Zhuzhou Institute for energy and transport research.
These site visits offered valuable exposure to global advancements in photovoltaics, energy storage, artificial intelligence, and Fourth Industrial Revolution applications. By fostering these international ties, DEWA continues to drive innovation and reinforce Dubai’s commitment to a cleaner, more resilient energy infrastructure.
