Google has officially launched its AI-powered configuration tool within Search Console, making it available to all users after a successful testing period. This innovative feature transforms how marketers and website owners interact with their performance data by allowing them to use plain language to generate customized reports. Instead of manually navigating complex filters, you can now simply ask a question, and the AI will configure the report settings for you, streamlining the entire analysis process.

The announcement was made via Google’s LinkedIn channel, confirming the global rollout. When you log into your Search Console account and navigate to the performance report, a new prompt labeled “New! Customize your Performance report using AI” should appear at the top. Clicking this prompt activates the conversational interface for the tool.

This AI configuration is engineered to simplify data analysis by automatically managing three core components based on your descriptive input. First, it handles selecting metrics, choosing which of the four key metrics, Clicks, Impressions, Average CTR, and Average Position, to display in direct response to your query. Second, it takes care of applying filters, narrowing the dataset by factors like specific queries, pages, countries, devices, search appearance types, or date ranges. Finally, it assists in configuring comparisons, such as setting up side-by-side analyses of different custom date periods without requiring any manual setup from the user.

It’s important to note that this functionality is currently exclusive to the Performance report for standard web Search results. The tool is not yet available for analyzing performance within Google Discover or Google News reports. As with any AI-driven system, the responses and configurations may not always be perfect and should be considered a starting point for investigation. However, experimenting with this tool can provide valuable, unexpected insights and prompt new lines of inquiry about your site’s search performance that you might not have previously considered.
