Wyze’s Smart Scale Measures Body Fat with Retractable Handle

▼ Summary

– Wyze has launched its first smart scale with a retractable handle that measures body metrics for arms, legs, and torso individually.
– The Ultra BodyScan is Wyze’s most expensive smart scale at $119.98, offering similar features to the $499.95 Withings Body Scan.
– It uses eight electrodes for more accurate bioelectrical impedance analysis and measures 13 body composition metrics like weight and body fat.
– Unlike the Withings Body Scan, it lacks advanced heart metrics such as EKG recordings and cardiovascular health assessments.
– The scale has a 4.3-inch color screen, supports up to eight users, and connects via Wi-Fi/Bluetooth to apps, powered by AAA batteries for up to nine months.

Wyze has launched its first smart scale featuring a retractable handle, designed to measure body composition metrics for individual body segments like arms, legs, and torso. This new Ultra BodyScan model represents the company’s most premium offering to date, priced at $119.98. While that makes it the costliest scale in Wyze’s lineup, it still undercuts the functionality of high-end competitors, such as the $499.95 Withings Body Scan, which also includes a handle.

The scale is now available for purchase directly from Wyze. It builds upon the foundation of the more affordable $34 Wyze Scale X, which tracks 13 different body composition metrics, including weight, body fat percentage, BMI, muscle mass, bone density, and body water levels. The key upgrade with the Ultra BodyScan is its use of eight electrodes, located both on the scale’s platform and within the retractable handle. This advanced setup enables more precise bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), delivering a detailed breakdown of body composition data segmented by limbs and torso.

One area where the Wyze model does not match its pricier rival is in heart health monitoring. Both scales can measure heart rate during a weigh-in session. However, the Withings Body Scan provides significantly more advanced cardiac features, such as EKG recordings that can be shared with healthcare providers, cardiovascular health assessments, vascular age estimates, and alerts for potential arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation.

The Ultra BodyScan includes a spacious 4.3-inch customizable color screen, allowing users to view their metrics directly on the device without needing a smartphone. It supports up to eight different user profiles and can track how measurements change over time. For those who prefer app integration, the scale uses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to sync data with the Wyze mobile app, as well as with Google Fit and Apple Health. Power is supplied by four AAA batteries, which Wyze claims can last up to nine months under normal use. Like other Wyze scales, it also offers special modes for weighing pets or luggage while you hold them.
