DJI has officially announced the Osmo Mobile 8, its latest smartphone stabilizer, just eight months after the release of the Osmo Mobile 7 Pro. While the overall design remains consistent with previous models, the OM8 introduces several noteworthy upgrades. The standout features include a new 360-degree rotation and panning capability for smartphones, along with support for Apple’s DockKit. This integration allows the stabilizer to autonomously track and follow subjects using a broader range of camera applications.

At present, DJI has not confirmed plans for a release outside of China. According to a company spokesperson, the Osmo Mobile 8 is exclusively available in the Chinese market, with no estimated timeline for international availability. The device is priced at 898 Chinese Yuan, approximately $126.

The OM8 retains several practical elements from its predecessor, such as the built-in tripod legs and an 8.4-inch telescoping extension rod that helps users capture smooth low-angle shots. It also includes the same Multifunctional Module, which attaches securely to a reinforced magnetic phone mount. This module houses an LED fill light, functions as a wireless receiver for DJI’s microphones, and enables subject tracking regardless of the camera app in use. DJI has enhanced the tracking system to now recognize and follow pets, including both dogs and cats.

Battery performance remains strong, offering up to 10 hours of continuous use. A new addition to the OM8 is a counterweight mount, designed to keep the gimbal properly balanced when using smartphones with large lenses or when additional accessories are attached. This ensures stable and shake-free footage in a variety of shooting scenarios.
