Qatar Airways has officially launched Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) throughout its digital systems, a significant move that advances the nation’s digital transformation goals. This deployment was completed with guidance and oversight from the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), aligning with a broader national strategy to strengthen Qatar’s digital capabilities and keep pace with international technological standards.
IPv6 represents the newest generation of the Internet Protocol, providing a dramatically larger pool of addresses than the older IPv4 system. This expansion allows for effortless connections among countless devices, which is essential for supporting Internet of Things (IoT) networks, smart city developments, and machine-to-machine communication. These technologies form the backbone of today’s digital economy.
The CRA, responsible for leading the IPv6 Qatar Taskforce, supervised Qatar Airways’ migration to confirm it met all technical, security, and regulatory requirements. Ali Al Suwaidi, Director of Technical Affairs at the CRA, emphasized the strategic value of this step. He added that it reflects the airline’s advanced digital capabilities and helps reinforce Qatar’s standing as a premier digital hub.
Al Suwaidi also confirmed the CRA’s continued dedication to helping both public and private entities transition to IPv6 by offering technical assistance, awareness campaigns, and coordinated policy execution, all consistent with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
Suhail Kamil Kadri, Chief Information Officer at Qatar Airways, noted that this initiative demonstrates the airline’s strong focus on innovation and secure digital evolution. He explained that this milestone supports Qatar National Vision 2030 and underlines the necessity of establishing a secure, robust, and forward-looking digital framework.
