The online gaming platform Roblox has introduced a new short-form video feed designed to let users capture and share their gameplay highlights, alongside a suite of AI-powered creation tools and enhanced monetization options for developers. These announcements, made during the Roblox Developers Conference, signal a major push toward social content sharing and more accessible, powerful creation features within the metaverse.
Dubbed “Roblox Moments,” the new video feature enters beta for users aged 13 and above. It enables players to record up to 30 seconds of gameplay, trim clips, add music, and write captions before publishing to a scrollable community feed. Viewers can react with emojis and even jump directly into a game experience from a video. A gradual rollout is planned to help refine content moderation, with all videos screened before going live and user reporting options available.
Later this year, Roblox will release API-based tools allowing creators to build custom in-game video systems. This could include showcasing trending clips, creating highlight reels, or designing leaderboards, for instance, displaying the best overtakes in a racing game.
In a move to better reward its creator community, Roblox is raising the DevEx (Developer Exchange) rate. Creators can now earn 8.5% more when cashing out Robux, meaning 100,000 earned Robux converts to $380 instead of $350. The company emphasized its commitment to helping developers thrive, noting that average revenue for a Top 1000 developer has nearly tripled since 2020.
A series of new AI tools aim to streamline and enhance creative workflows. Beyond static object generation, creators can now produce fully interactive items. For example, typing “a sleek, futuristic red sports car” will generate a drivable vehicle with customizable features like operable doors. This represents a significant leap in generative AI functionality within the platform.
Roblox also previewed real-time voice chat translation, set to launch next year for English, Spanish, French, and German speakers. Voice chat will be instantly translated into the listener’s preferred language, breaking down communication barriers in global multiplayer sessions.
New text-to-speech and speech-to-text APIs will give developers more ways to build immersive experiences. The text-to-speech feature offers 10 English voice options for narration or character dialogue, while speech-to-text allows voice-activated commands, like saying “Fire!” to shoot a cannon.
Performance upgrades include “Server Authority,” a new mode that reduces cheating and improves physics realism. Avatars will soon feature more natural movement, such as running, climbing, and vaulting with realistic momentum, along with refined finger articulation for grasping objects.
These updates follow recent efforts to strengthen safety and age-appropriate content, including expanded age-estimation technology and partnerships with the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) to implement game ratings. These steps come amid broader industry scrutiny around platform safety for younger users.
