The long-awaited crossover fighting game Tekken X Street Fighter was nearly one-third complete before development paused, according to series producer Katsuhiro Harada. Originally announced alongside Street Fighter X Tekken in 2012, this ambitious project aimed to bring Capcom’s iconic fighters into Bandai Namco’s 3D arena – but progress stalled by 2016.

Harada recently confirmed the game reached 30% completion during an interview, expressing interest in potentially showcasing the unfinished work to fans. “It’s hard to say if that’s even a thing,” he remarked when questioned about the project’s status. “I’d like to show people what we already have. We were 30% into development, so fingers crossed.” His comments suggest the door remains open for revival, echoing his 2021 statement about waiting for the right moment to resume work.

Though Tekken X Street Fighter never materialized, Tekken 7 offered a glimpse of the crossover potential by introducing Street Fighter’s Akuma as a fully integrated character. Unlike traditional Tekken fighters, Akuma retained his signature Super Combo meter and special moves, blending mechanics from both franchises. His inclusion proved so successful that he became a key figure in Tekken 7’s storyline.

Meanwhile, both franchises have continued evolving separately. Street Fighter 6 debuted last year with plans to expand its roster, including the upcoming addition of C. Viper. Similarly, Tekken 8 launched earlier this year with a roadmap featuring regular character updates, such as Armor King’s October release and Miary Zo’s winter debut.

While the dream crossover remains shelved, Harada’s comments keep hope alive for fans eager to see Capcom and Bandai Namco’s worlds collide once more. For now, players can enjoy each series’ latest entries while wondering what might have been.
