Google Adds Recipe Links to Top of AI Mode Results

▼ Summary
– Google launched a new visual treatment in AI Mode that places prominent links with images and details (creator name, ratings, ingredient count) at the top of responses for relevant recipe queries.
– Robby Stein, VP of Product for Google Search, announced the change on X, tying it to recipe-results work he first described in March.
– The update builds on a March recipe panel, shifting links to a top position and adding creator and recipe details alongside them.
– The new treatment could give recipe pages more visible placement in AI Mode, but Stein did not specify if structured data is mandatory.
– Recipe publisher Inspired Taste appreciated the change but argued Google still shows AI-generated recipes that can misrepresent content, calling for more work.
Google has quietly rolled out a fresh visual update to its AI Mode in Search, giving recipe links a more prominent spot at the top of relevant query results. Robby Stein, Google’s VP of Product for Search, shared the news on X, noting the change is part of an ongoing effort to refine how recipes appear in the search experience.
For queries that involve cooking or baking, users will now see clickable links accompanied by images and key details. According to Stein, these entries include the creator’s name, recipe ratings, and the number of ingredients. The update builds on work Stein first previewed back in March, when Google introduced a recipe panel within AI Mode.
In his post, Stein explained: “Sharing more on our continued work to help people find great recipes in Search. We just launched a new visual treatment making it even easier to discover and visit recipe pages with AI Mode. For relevant recipe queries, you’ll see prominent links at the top of responses with useful details and images – like the creator name, recipe ratings and number of ingredients. As I mentioned in March, this is something we’re continuing to work on – thanks for everyone’s feedback here.”
The March update allowed users to tap a dish to open a panel with recipe links and a short overview. The new version moves those links to the top of the AI Mode response, adding creator and recipe details directly next to them. This shift gives recipe pages a potentially higher visibility in AI-generated results, which could benefit publishers who optimize their content.
Stein’s listed details, ratings, ingredients, creator names, are fields commonly found in recipe structured data, though he didn’t confirm whether that markup is required for the new treatment. The change has drawn mixed reactions from recipe publishers. Some, like Inspired Taste, acknowledged the improvement but voiced lingering concerns. In a reply to Stein, the publisher said the update is “a big step in the right direction,” yet argued that Google still produces AI-generated recipes that can misrepresent original content. “There is a lot more work to be done,” they added.
Stein’s announcement didn’t specify which regions, languages, devices, or specific queries will trigger the new layout. He credited creator feedback as the driving force behind the continued refinements, leaving the door open for further adjustments to how recipe links function in AI Mode.
The early response indicates that Google may face ongoing pressure from recipe publishers over how AI Mode summarizes and attributes their work. As the company iterates, the balance between user convenience and creator credit remains a central tension.
