Microsoft has introduced more affordable versions of its 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop, trimming the RAM to bring down the cost. The new configurations feature 8GB of RAM instead of the standard 16GB, with the Surface Pro priced at $849 and the Surface Laptop at $949. These lower-cost options were first reported by Windows Central.
When the 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop originally launched in 2025, their base models came with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS storage, starting at $799 and $899, respectively. However, by April 2026, Microsoft increased those prices to $1,049 and $1,199. This memory-related price hike also pushed up the starting cost for the company’s newest Surface devices.
Beyond the reduction in memory, the rest of the hardware remains unchanged. These new SKUs give customers a way to access the latest Surface designs without paying the premium tied to higher RAM configurations.
