The Nintendo Switch 2 has officially reached its one-year anniversary, and consistent firmware updates have marked its journey since launch. The latest patch, Version 22.5.0, is now rolling out globally, bringing a mix of stability enhancements and expanded language support options.

To install the update manually, navigate to System Settings and select the system update option if the automatic prompt does not appear. Below is the full breakdown of what this patch delivers, sourced from Nintendo’s official support page.

For Accessibility, the update adds Dutch and Russian as supported languages for Text to Speech. These same languages are now also available under the “Change Speech ⇔ Text During GameChat” setting, giving more players greater flexibility in communication.

The Nintendo eShop receives a visual refresh. Its color scheme will now automatically match your system’s theme if you have selected “Basic Dark” in System Settings. Additionally, a new security feature allows the User-Verification PIN to be required when accessing the eShop or using saved payment methods, adding an extra layer of protection.

Video playback improvements are also included. When watching full-screen videos in News or the Nintendo eShop, you can now rewind 10 seconds or advance 10 seconds using the ZL and ZR buttons.

Rounding out the patch are the customary general system stability improvements designed to enhance the overall user experience. This marks the first update for both the Switch and Switch 2 since April 2026. Notably, a major system update in March of this year introduced Handheld Mode Boost and expanded Game Chat features.

Separately, Nintendo has also released a new update for Nintendo Music. It adds additional “Free Roam” songs from the Mario Kart World soundtrack, including tracks from the Super Mario Bros. 1, 2, and 3 playlists. To stream these new additions, you will need an active Switch Online subscription and access to the app or a web browser.
