Roblox daily user decline continues as age-checks hinder growth

▼ Summary

– Roblox’s daily active users fell to 132 million globally, down from 144 million at the end of last year and 152 million in Q3 2025.
– The decline was driven by headwinds from age-check feature rollout, which slowed new user acquisition, and Russia’s December 2025 ban on Roblox.
– Roblox expanded age restrictions on game access and will implement further improvements to facilitate age-appropriate content, lowering its 2026 growth expectations.
– As of Q1, 51% of global daily active users and 65% of US users have completed age checks.
– Roblox increased its Developer Exchange rate by 42% for in-game spending from age-checked users over 18 to boost content for older users.

Roblox’s user base continues to shrink, with the platform’s latest earnings report revealing a drop in daily active users that the company attributes largely to its rollout of age verification measures. As of the first quarter, the gaming platform reported 132 million daily active users globally, a decline from 144 million at the close of last year and down from 152 million in the third quarter of 2025. In the US and Canada specifically, active users fell by one million compared to the previous quarter. Despite the user dip, Roblox’s revenue climbed to $1.4 billion.

The company explained that first-quarter growth was “tempered by greater-than-expected headwinds” as its age-check features “slowed new user acquisition.” Russia’s December 2025 ban on Roblox also contributed to the decline in daily active users.

Earlier this month, Roblox expanded its age restrictions to limit the types of games accessible to different age brackets. Over the next few quarters, the company plans to “implement additional improvements designed to facilitate age-appropriate access to content and product features.” Roblox stated that its ongoing safety push will lower its “expectations for topline growth in 2026.”

According to Thursday’s earnings report, 51 percent of global daily active users had completed age verification by the end of the first quarter. In the US, that figure rose to 65 percent.

At the same time, Roblox has been working to expand its offerings for users over 18. On Thursday, the company announced a 42 percent increase to its Developer Exchange rate for in-game spending from age-checked users aged 18 and older, a move designed to incentivize creators targeting that demographic.
