We now have a clear look at Sony’s 10th anniversary headphones ahead of their expected debut tomorrow. Leaked renders of the 1000X “The ColleXion” Edition, shared by OnLeaks and HotEUDeals, reveal thicker leatherette padding and generously sized earcups that set them apart from the current WH-1000XM6 series.

The “ColleXion” name first surfaced on Sony’s websites back in April, tied to an over-ear model number “WH-1000XX,” but no images were available then. Now, the full design and accessories are visible, along with details confirming the May 19th launch date and a $649 price tag in the US. That’s $200 more than the XM6 flagships cost at launch.

For that premium price, buyers get a choice of black or white finishes, plus upscale touches like color-matched metallic yokes connecting the headband to the drivers. The earcup buttons are more pronounced, and the microphone grilles have shifted from standard mesh cavities to larger holes that seem to cut directly through the chassis. It’s unclear from the renders whether the buttons are actual metal or just metallic plastic.

According to marketing slides leaked alongside the images, the ColleXion will deliver up to 24 hours of battery life, extending to 32 hours with noise cancellation off. Sony’s ANC relies on a V3 co-processor paired with the QN3 processor already found in the XM6. To fine-tune the sound, Sony has partnered with three studios that have mastered Grammy-winning records: Battery Studios, Sterling Sound, and Coast Mastering.

The included carry case marks a sharp departure from Sony’s usual designs. It looks more like a handbag, with a built-in handle and a magnetic closure instead of a zipper. At least it avoids the bra-like silhouette of the Apple AirPods Max. Inside, you’ll find a USB-C cable for charging and a 3.5mm cable for wired listening.
