Unknown Worlds has unveiled the PC system requirements for Subnautica 2, the deep-sea survival title currently overshadowed by high-profile legal disputes between publisher Krafton and former company executives. Brace yourself: these specs might sting more than a crashfish.
For a baseline experience at 1080p and 30fps on low settings, you will need 12GB of RAM. That is a steep minimum, isn’t it? While I am not the resident hardware guru, I still consider 8GB the standard for most modern, graphically demanding games. The recommended configuration jumps to 16GB of RAM paired with an 8GB graphics card. And if you dream of running it at 4K on high presets at 60fps, prepare for 32GB of RAM , which, frankly, feels like hoarding all the memory that exists on Earth. I might be overstating things, but it appears that to play Subnautica 2 on anything beyond a basic office machine, I will need to fund my own mining operation.
This is unfortunate, because I genuinely adore the original Subnautica. It remains one of the few survival games I have ever enjoyed, alongside Minecraft and, more recently, Lucid Blocks. The sequel, built on Unreal Engine 5, will enter early access on May 14th, kicking things off with a colossal squid creature. The water looks mesmerizing, with incredible marine snow effects. Hopefully, the developers will optimize the minimum requirements during early access, giving players without personal palladium mines a fair chance to dive in.
