Razer has launched its inaugural split ergonomic keyboard, the Pro Type Ergo, marking a significant entry into the productivity-focused peripheral market. Priced at $189.99, this new model arrives at a premium over the company’s 2021 Pro Type Ultra. While designed as a productivity tool rather than a gaming accessory, it retains Razer’s signature aesthetic with 19-zone customizable RGB lighting that users can turn off.
The keyboard’s ergonomic design features a split, curved layout intended to align with the natural resting position of a user’s arms and hands. It utilizes ultra-low-profile, laser-etched ABS keycaps shaped to fit fingertips, with sound-dampening layers underneath to minimize audible keystrokes. A unique element of the split design includes dual “B” keys and an extra backspace key positioned between two space bars, a configuration Razer states allows both thumbs to handle frequent actions more comfortably, reducing finger crossover and unnecessary reach.
For enhanced functionality, the Pro Type Ergo includes a Razer Command Dial in each corner, each programmable with up to eight functions. A vertical strip of five customizable macro keys on the left side offers app-specific functionality. On the right side, above the number pad, a dedicated button provides one-touch access to launch Razer’s AI Prompt Master app for quick use of preferred AI tools.
Comfort is a central focus, featuring a built-in, non-removable padded wrist rest. The keys are arranged on a 10-degree slope, and the entire keyboard angle can be adjusted with up to seven degrees of forward or backward tilt. Rated for up to three months of battery life on a full charge, actual performance may vary based on usage and connection type. The keyboard supports multi-device connectivity for up to five devices simultaneously: three via Bluetooth, one using a 2.4GHz HyperSpeed Wireless dongle, and one through a wired USB-C connection.
